Guillamon, Antoni
My scientific fields of speciality are Dynamical Systems and Mathematical Biology, mostly focusing on Mathematical Neuroscience. I am working on different problems of this interdisciplinary
field, developing computational methods, interacting with experimental researchers and using and analyzing mathematical tools. More specifically, I am interested on (1) synchronization of
neurons' ensembles; (2) short-term synaptic depression (neuronal plasticity); (3) estimation of input synaptic conductances from the membrane potential traces of a neuron; and, (4) elucidation
of the brain mechanisms that allow perceptions to change without altering the sensory stimuli. For these purposes, I use both theory of dynamical systems
(specially on invariant manifolds), together with statistical inference tools (specially to design nonlinear estimation strategies) and computational methods.
Slow-fast systems and their mathematical analysis overarch all my research lines. Apart from the projects on Neuroscience, I am also interested on hypercycle theory to explain the
replication of molecules hypothetically present on the primordial Earth. I am Doctor in Mathematics by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and, currently, Associate Professor at the Department
of Mathematics of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
