Machine learning tasks usually rely on the determination of a probability distribution in order to optimize certain functional. The computation of this probability distribution can be divided in two cases. In the first one the real distribution is known but too complex, so the aim is to approximate it; while in the second case we know a set of distributions and we want to find the best one among them. My project consists of developing convex formulations of such optimization process using general divergence functions and designing efficient optimization algorithms in high or even infinite dimensional settings.
