Mathematical Modelling in Biosciences

My main research interests are in the development and application of mathematical and computational methods for the solution of real-life problems, often lying at the interface between subjects. I enjoy collaborating with experts of different disciplines and I am particularly interested in merging theoretical results with observational and experimental data. I have a solid background in electrophysiology and one of the foci of my research is (and has been) the use of fractional order differential operators to describe electrical signal propagation in complex media characterised by high levels of heterogeneity (such as cardiac or neural tissue). I am also currently involved in a project investigating Bayesian approaches for the analysis of high-throughput RNA sequencing data related to therapy-resistant breast cancer cells, efficient methodologies for sampling and Bayesian inference. Finally, I am collaborating with the rest of the MTB group on the epidemiological SHARUCD model dashboard, and have recently started analysing both COVID-19 and influenza data for the Basque Country.
