"Cellular-Automata Modelling of Wildfires"

The growth of a burned area during a wildfire event must be studied by using statistical methods. Moreover, operational software codes for simulating wildfire propagation are required to be faster than real fires. A successful family of operational fire simulators is based on a Cellular Automata (CA) approach where the probabilistic propagation of the fire is based on phenomenological laws. The aim of this research project is to provide improvements for fire simulators based on CA. In particular, the research is going to be focused on the software code PROPAGATOR [1]. The research will be developed in the framework of the research project ”Be a Better Digital Fire-Fighter” (PDC2022-133115-I00) funded by the the Spanish National Research Agency (Agencia Estatal de Investigación) and lead by Gianni Pagnini.
