This project was done in collaboration with J.M. Asua, POLYMAT, University of the Basque Country, Spain.
We developed the first model able to describe dynamics of the development of morphologies for multicomponent (three or more phases) waterborne particles [1]. For three-phase systems the number of possible morphologies is unknown. Our model is able to reproduce many multiphase morphologies such as core-shell (Video 1) and hemispheres (Video 2).
Possible applications of this model are the synthesis of hybrid waterborne materials for coatings, adhesives, additives in paper and textiles, impact modifiers for plastic matrices, additives for constructing materials and cosmetics.
