Biography

Simon Morelli is a postdoctoral researcher specialized in quantum information theory. He is
currently part of the Quantum Mechanics group lead by Prof. Jean-Bernard Bru at the
Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) and closely working together with Prof.
Jens Siewert of the University of the Basque Country (EHU/UPV). His current research is
focused on the description and limitations of quantum correlations in finite-dimensional
multipartite quantum systems.

He earned his master's degree in mathematics from the University of Vienna in November
2018, with a thesis on 'Quantum Linear Entropy Inequalities'. Following this, he pursued a
PhD in Physics at the University of Vienna, completing it in June 2022. Under the
supervision of Dr. Nicolai Friis and Prof. Marcus Huber, his research delved into various
aspects of quantum information theory, encompassing subjects like quantum correlations
and entanglement theory, characterization and geometry of quantum state spaces and
quantum metrology. His research on these topics culminated in his thesis ‘High-dimensional
and multipartite quantum metrology and entanglement theory’. During his doctorate, Simon
Morelli was employed by the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI)
Vienna of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) and held a guest contract with the
Atominstitut of the Technical University Vienna.
