This award, granted by the National Research Agency, consolidates BCAM as one of the leading scientific institutions in Spain.
Representing BCAM at the event were Jose A. Lozano, Scientific Director of BCAM; Javier Fernández de Bobadilla, Ikerbasque Research Professor and Severo Ochoa accreditation guarantor; and Miguel Benítez, BCAM’s Project Manager.
The event, which featured the presence of prominent figures from the scientific and academic fields, began with a welcoming address by the president of the Scientific Committee of the "la Caixa" Foundation, Javier Solana. Domènec Espriu, director of the National Research Agency, also spoke, highlighting the significance of these awards in driving cutting-edge research across the country.
Diana Morant, Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, closed the event by emphasising the importance of research and innovation as engines of social and economic progress.
With this third consecutive accreditation, BCAM joins the list of 12 Spanish scientific institutions, becoming the first centre in the Basque Country to reach this milestone. The ceremony concluded with a group photo of all the accredited centres from 2018 to 2023, serving as a reminder of these institutions' commitment to scientific excellence.
This recognition strengthens BCAM's role as a leader in the field of applied mathematics and reaffirms its ability to continue spearheading high-impact research at an international level in the coming years, a field that has proven to be key in the development of technologies and scientific solutions with significant impact in areas such as artificial intelligence, biomedicine, energy, and sustainability.
