The 188th European Study Group with Industry (ESGI 188), hosted from May 26 to 30 at Bilbao's B Accelerator Tower (BAT), has concluded with the release of its Book of Abstracts. This event, organized by the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM) in collaboration with the Bizkaia Provincial Council and B Accelerator Tower, brought together industrial challenges and mathematical expertise for a week of dynamic problem-solving and innovation.Four prominent companies presented specific challenges, seeking mathematical insights to enhance their operations:

  • Lookiero: Optimizing product recommendation algorithms to elevate customer satisfaction and operational efficiency in their online personal shopping service.
  • BAT (B Accelerator Tower): Developing strategies to promote collaboration within its diverse ecosystem of startups, corporations, and researchers.
  • Quantum Mads: Addressing challenges related to optimizing complex computational processes for industrial applications in quantum computing solutions.
  • Danobatgroup: Enhancing predictive maintenance models to minimize downtime and improve machine reliability in industrial manufacturing.

Throughout the week, interdisciplinary teams of mathematicians and scientists collaborated closely with company representatives to develop models and propose solutions. This collaborative environment fostered innovative approaches, showcasing the practical impact of mathematical applications in addressing real-world industrial challenges.

The conclusion of ESGI 188 not only addressed immediate industry challenges but also strengthened the partnership between academia and the business sector, underscoring the mutual benefits of such collaborations. The success of this event highlights the ongoing value of collaborative efforts in driving innovation and solving complex problems across diverse industries.
