Sergio Moroni will defend his thesis on Friday, October 2nd

Sergio Moroni completed both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mathematics at Sapienza University of Rome, where he was also a student of the Scuola Superiore di Studi Avanzati Sapienza (SSAS). In 2023, he joined BCAM – Basque Center for Applied Mathematics as a PhD student.

His thesis, titled “Stability and Long–Time Behavior in Dispersive PDEs from Physical Models” is supervised by Arghir Zarnescu (BCAM & Ikerbasque) and Luca Fanelli (BCAM, EHU & Ikerbasque). It is scheduled to be defended on October 2nd, 2026, at Department of Mathematics Seminar Room, Faculty of Science and Technology (EHU - Leioa) at 11:30 a.m.

Abstract

This thesis studies stability and long-time dynamics of nonlinear dispersive PDEs arising from physical models. It focuses on a nonlocal Schrödinger-type model from nonlinear optics and on the sine–Gordon equation with a point defect, combining variational, spectral and dispersive techniques to analyze the stability and asymptotic behavior of nonlinear waves.
