Information of interest

BCAM Researcher - Applied Statistics.
Data Science coordinator at the Knowledge Transfer Unit (KTU).

Short bio:
He obtained his MSc in Telecommunication Engineering [Jan 2007, first-class honours] and his PhD in Biomedical Engineering [Jul 2015, cum laude]; both from the Technical University of Madrid (UPM, Spain).
Since then, he has post-doctoral research experience also at the ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research (University of Bern, Switzerland), at the University Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M, Spain); and since Nov 2019, the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics (BCAM, Bilbao, Basque Country - Spain).

Research interests:

My main expertise is in developing Artificial Intelligence-Machine Learning solutions to be applied to biomedical and health scenarios, including their deployment into pre-clinical and clinical trial scenarios. These solutions comprise supervised classification and/or estimation for medical prognosis, unsupervised clustering for patient profiling, as well as Deep Learning-based computer vision for medical image understanding (e.g. detection, location), and time series prediction.

    Current projects:

    • Mathematical Modelling Applied to Health, BCAM Strategy:
      • WP10: Deep learning applied to the management of hospital patients: improvement of health management, quality and clinical safety - Role: WP coordinator.
      • WP9: Mathematical modelling of human exposure to pollution: assessment of the impact on respiratory health in the Basque Country - Role: WP collaborator.
    • S3M1P4R - New proposals for estimation, prediction and validation of semi-parametric models for the analysis of complex data with applications in health and climate change.
    • MATH4SPORTS - Mathematical modelling for the sports industry: health and performance.
