Amaia Abanda, PhD student within the Machine Learning research line at BCAM, won the award for the best doctoral thesis project at the XVIII Conference of the Spanish Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAEPIA) that took place in Granada on October 23-26. This conference is a biennial forum open to researchers from all over the world to present and discuss their latest scientific and technological advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and includes a Doctoral Consortium that provides an opportunity for young pre-doctoral researchers to exchange ideas about their doctoral thesis project with other doctoral students and senior researchers. Amaia was awarded for her work entitled “A study on the discriminatory capacity of the temporal information on supervised time series classification problems”.
A few weeks earlier, Mostafa Shahriari won the Best Presentation Award at the 20th International Conference on Structural and Computational Geophysics. The PhD student within BCAM’s Simulation of Wave Propagation research line was awarded for his presentation on “A fast multi-scale Finite Element Method for Geophysical Resistivity Measurements”.
