Vittoria Sposini, former BCAM PhD and Master’s student, awarded the Early Career Prize of the European Physical Society
Dr. Vittoria Sposini, former Master’s and PhD student at the centre, who has been awarded the prestigious Early Career Prize by the European Physical Society (EPS).
Sposini was affiliated with BCAM during several research stays, first as a Master’s student between October and December 2016, then again in March 2017 for a research internship, and later from May 2019 to February 2020 as part of her co-tutelle PhD programme between the University of Potsdam (Germany) and the University of the Basque Country (Spain) . During her time at BCAM, she worked within the Statistical Physics group under the supervision of Dr Gianni Pagnini, focusing on the development of mathematical models for anomalous diffusion in heterogeneous environments.
Reflecting on the EPS Early Career Prize, Sposini describes the recognition as both an honour and an encouragement: “Most importantly though, it’s a reminder that growth, satisfaction, and recognition are all strengthened by collaboration… it gives a tiny boost of confidence, which is always welcome in a field that can often be quite complicated to navigate.”
Currently she is a researcher at the Physics Department of the University of Padova (Italy), Sposini’s work centres on stochastic modelling and the statistical analysis of thermal and active motion in disordered soft-matter systems. Her research combines Molecular Dynamics simulations with single-particle trajectory analysis, addressing phenomena such as anomalous diffusion, glassy dynamics, and non-Gaussian diffusion in colloidal systems .
Sposini holds a PhD in Theoretical Physics and in Mathematics & Statistics through a co-tutelle agreement between Potsdam and the University of the Basque Country. After completing her doctorate, she undertook a three-year postdoctoral fellowship within the REWIRE Programme at the University of Vienna, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND initiative supporting women in research. She is currently carrying out an Individual MSCA Fellowship at the University of Padova .
BCAM warmly congratulates Vittoria Sposini on this outstanding achievement and wishes her continued success in her scientific career.
