From October 12 to 16, 2025, BCAM researcher Santiago Mazuelas co-organized the Symposium on Mathematical Foundations of Trustworthy Learning, held at the Monte Verità Congress Center in Ascona, Switzerland. The event was organized together with Prof. Fanny Yang and Prof. Niao He from ETH Zürich in cooperation with the ELLIS Research Program for Theory, Algorithms and Computations of Modern Learning Machines. The Symposium marked the third edition of a workshop series that began at BCAM in 2022.
The symposium featured prestigious speakers from institutions including UC San Diego, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, TU Berlin, UC Berkeley, Yale University, Columbia University, INRIA, IST Austria,, and University of Michigan, among others. The high quality and diversity of the speakers reinforced the event’s role as an international reference at the intersection of mathematics and machine learning.
The event took place at the historic Monte Verità, a hill overlooking Lake Maggiore, known in the early 20th century as a meeting place for artists, thinkers, and alternative movements. Today, it hosts the Congressi Stefano Franscini convention center of ETH Zürich, providing an ideal setting for scientific exchange and interdisciplinary reflection.
This symposium was generously sponsored by ETH Institute of Machine Learning, Swiss National Science Foundation, Congressi Stefano Franscini, and BCAM.
