BCAM takes part in OREgaua 2025, the European Researchers’ Night, bringing the potential of marine renewables to more than 3,000 people
- On September 26, the Lasesarre Sports Center was transformed into a large laboratory thanks to ORE4CITIZENS, the alliance driven by Basque women scientists from Tecnalia, BCAM, UPV/EHU, and Euskampus, with the aim of bringing the potential of marine renewables closer to society.
- More than 150 researchers shared their work and passion for science, with a special focus on “Made in Euskadi” solutions to tackle climate change, engaging citizens in a participatory and enjoyable way.
- ORE4CITIZENS is a MSCA & Citizen project. The purpose of this call is to bring research and researchers closer to the general public, with a special focus on families, pupils, and students.
On Friday, September 26, BCAM participated in OREgaua 2025, the European Researchers’ Night, which turned the Lasesarre Sports Center into a huge laboratory to showcase the potential of marine renewables to more than 3,000 people.
OREgaua is the flagship event of ORE4CITIZENS, the alliance promoted by Basque women scientists from Tecnalia, BCAM, UPV/EHU, and Euskampus to bring marine renewable energy closer to citizens.
At BCAM, the project’s Principal Investigator is Ana Fernández Navamuel, who, together with researchers from the center (Floren Balboa, Daniel Eceizabarrena, Elissabeta de Giovanni, Nuria Richer, Chayma Nsibbi) as well as part of the administration team, designed and carried out several experiments:
- Turbine Detective: In a fun and interactive way, participants discovered how science, technology, and mathematics help us care for our energy giants. They learned why a tiny tremor or an almost invisible tilt can be the key to preventing a major problem.
- Heat trapped in colors
- Card games: marine professions
OREgaua featured over 40 interactive scientific experiment zones; technological exhibitions of underwater robots; live drone flight demonstrations; a Txikigune (children’s space); an exhibition of Basque women scientists; gymkhanas, competitions, and much more.
More than 150 researchers shared their work and passion for science, with a special focus on “Made in Euskadi” solutions to tackle climate change, engaging citizens in a participatory and enjoyable way.
On September 26, the venue filled with families who stayed, on average, nearly two hours exploring the more than 40 science workshops.
Thanks to the commitment of many volunteers, OREgaua 2025 was consolidated as a space for encounters between science and society, showing that science outreach can be as entertaining as it is transformative.
ORE4CITIZENS is a MSCA & Citizen project. The aim of this call is to bring research and researchers closer to the general public, focusing especially on families and students.
